Robotics Workshop for Teachers

This one week certification course will introduce educators to the basic concepts of robotics using the LEGO® MINDSTORMS® robot to program and compete in a variety of challenges. No previous programming experience is required!

  • Learn how to extend the concepts of robotics to teach STEM education

  • Learn about the Engineering design process and the iterative nature of engineering

  • Learn how to make Physics fun for students by teaching the basic concepts like forces and motion using a 3D robot

What's included

  •   Training in LEGO® Digital Designer, a 3D CAD tool that can be used to build 3D robots.

  •   Training LEGO® MINDSTORMS® EV3 programming environment, which will allow you to program and control your virtual robot.

  •   A team license for the Virtual Robotics Toolkit ($200 value), our robot simulator developed in Winnipeg at Cogmation Robotics. Used internationally in schools and by robotic enthusiasts across the globe.

Workshop Outline

  •   Detailed introduction to LEGO® robots and sensors.

  •   Designing a robot using LEGO® Digital Designer.

  •   Building a physical robot using a LEGO® MINDSTORMS kit.

  •   Programming a robot using EV3-G programming language.

  •   Testing and Simulating your 3D robot using Virtual Robotics Toolkit.

Education Through Simulation

Robotics is a great way to learn about programming, and an even more powerful tool for teaching subjects in STEM Education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) . Simulation is a natural means for seeing and understanding how difficult concepts such as forces and motion come to play in real life.

The Toolkit allows every student to learn how to program an NXT or EV3 robot, making it possible to work with the robot, even when it isn’t physically available.

Already using physical robots? Use our simulator to enhance and expand the LEGO® MINDSTORMS® experience. You can control your virtual robot using the EXACT same tools as you would use on the real thing.

Testimonials

"The Virtual Robotics Toolkit is very versatile for classrooms, it can be used from middle years through high school in math or physics lesson or in a computer science class."

Elaine Lochhead Assistant Superintendent, Student Services, Seine River School Division

"We are a virtual school, and our kids are spread out all over our region. Coming together for a meeting where we can build and program together isn't always the easiest thing to coordinate. The Virtual Robotics Toolkit seems to offer a pretty good solution for us."

Shaun Walker K-2STEM Teacher, Pascoe School
